Strength, balance , agility and reach are required for dressing and undressing. Learning to dress and undress with a new aid or piece of equipment takes patience and practice. It is generally easier to undress than dress.
The following aids maybe useful:
- Long handed show horns and sock/pantyhose aids assist to put shoes and socks on, if reaching and bending is difficult.
- Special elastic shoelaces assist getting shoes on or off. They are ideal for those with reduced grip or arthritis.
- Button hooks are ideal for doing up shirts, blouses, coats and all buttons.
- Reaching aids may also be of assistance when pulling, picking up or reaching for clothing.
